With its white stone-covered summit giving it the air of eternal snow, Mont Ventoux has become an emblematic mountain of Provence. From its 1910-metre peak, far removed from any competing summit, it offers limitless views. However, the summit is both a dangerous and fragile high-mountain site. Here’s what you need to know before setting off to discover the Géant de Provence.

Points to check
  • Weather conditions

Weather conditions can change rapidly and differ considerably from forecasts for surrounding villages. Before you leave, check the forecast here.

  • Access

Mont Ventoux is accessible via 3 main roads: Bédoin, Malaucène and Sault. Be sure to check road conditions before setting off, especially in winter.

In summer, access to Mont Ventoux may be closed due to fire risks. Consult this site before you visit.

In winter, the Mont Ventoux pass is closed to cars, motorcycles and bicycles for safety and weather reasons from mid-November until spring. However, you can access Chalet Reynard or the Mont Serein resort with suitable equipment.

  • Site traffic

For a more serene experience, we recommend avoiding busy periods. So, during the summer season, it’s best to visit in the morning or late afternoon, and if possible, outside weekends. You can see the occupancy rate of the various parking lots in real time here.

  • Physical preparation and equipment

Before you set off, make sure you’re in good physical health, and that you’re equipped with warm clothing and good footwear.

  • Caution on access roads

Be careful on the access roads into the massif, which are frequented by many different users (cars, motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians).

Summit visit From Mont Ventoux

Once you’ve reached the summit, here are a few recommendations to help you make the most of your visit:

  • Parking and traffic: if you’re a motorist, be sure to park and turn around only in designated areas, for your own safety and that of the environment. Three parking areas are available, depending on the access you have chosen.
  • Respect for the environment: stay on the marked trails to preserve the surrounding biodiversity. Avoid picking plants to maintain the fragile balance of the ecosystem.
  • Vigilance and accompaniment : be vigilant throughout your visit, especially in view of the steep gradients. People with reduced mobility must be accompanied to ensure their safety.

By following these tips, you can make the most of your experience at the summit of Mont Ventoux, while preserving its natural beauty!
