Getting to Mont Ventoux

Nicknamed the “Giant of Provence” or “Mont Chauve”, Mont Ventoux is a mythical mountain peaking at 1910 meters. It is an exceptional massif for outdoor sports: cycling, hiking, trail running, paragliding… It proudly attracts all eyes with its fascinating summit.

Mont Ventoux: 3 access points for 3 times the thrills!

How to get there:

There are 3 road access routes to the summit of Mont Ventoux:

  • Via Malaucène, north side – D 974. Malaucène > summit: 21 km. Difference in altitude: 1575m.
  • Via Bédoin, south side – D 974. Bédoin > summit: 21.8 km. Ascent: 1598m.
  • Via Sault – D 164. Sault > summit: 25.6 km. Difference in altitude: 1210m.

The summit is accessible from all 3 access points, so you can go up one side and down the other, and vice-versa! Each access has its own charm, and all lead to the same highest point, offering breathtaking scenery towards infinite horizons.

From Vaison-la-Romaine, the nearest access is via Malaucène to reach the Mont Serein resort in around 30 minutes, then the summit of Mont Ventoux.

The Mont Serein resort offers a wide range of family activities in both summer and winter.

In summer, you’ll find playgrounds for children: accrobranche (tree climbing), inflatable games, horse or pony rides, dévalkart… With an average temperature drop of 10° compared with summer temperatures on the plains, the Mont Serein resort is a cool place to have fun all day long.

And in winter, it’s even possible to ski! The resort has become the ski area of Provence, with 12 km of downhill runs, 7 km of cross-country runs and 8 km of snowshoeing, tobogganing and snowboarding…

Go to Mont-Ventoux

Before setting off to climb Mont Ventoux, whatever the season, we advise you to take careful note of practical information such as climbing conditions, access options, crowds, etc., so you can enjoy the Giant of Provence with complete peace of mind and preserve this natural jewel.

Practical info
  • Opening and closing the collar

In winter, the Mont Ventoux pass is closed to cars, motorcycles and bicycles for safety and weather reasons from mid-November until spring. Winter arrivals stop at Chalet Reynard on the south side and at the Mont Serein station on the north side.

  • The 'Montagne' law

As a reminder, the mountain law requires you to have special equipment for your vehicles from November 1 to March 31 in order to access the resorts.

  • Winter access to the summit

Access to the summit is possible on foot, subject to favorable weather conditions and good physical condition. It takes between 1h30 and 2h to reach the summit from the Mont Serein resort. We strongly advise you to check the weather conditions at the resort beforehand, as the summit can be very surprising in terms of both temperature and wind gusts!
