Rising before dawn requires an effort but the reward is more than worth it. As you make your way up le Géant de Provence, the freshness of the air and the peaceful silence of the heights provide a sense of tranquillity. An arrival at the summit where waiting for the first rays of sunshine becomes a moment of meditation …

A moment when time seems suspended, when you wait with your eyes riveted on the horizon. The long-awaited moment is finally here: the darkness very slowly begins to give way to a reddish glow. Then, little by little the sky blazes with shades of orange, pink and gold. When the sun makes its appearance, it’s an explosion of light that illuminates the surrounding landscape. The light plays and creates a magical cameo, an atmosphere on the edge of reality!

Advice

Preparing for the summit
- Consult the weather (clear skies even on the Alps side! and no mistral).
- Access and route: 3 options (Bédoin, Malaucène or Sault). Beware of seasonal closures.
- Pack good shoes, warm clothes with a windbreaker or down jacket and a plaid or blanket even in high summer. A headlamp can be useful if you want to enjoy a walk to the summit before sunrise.
- Camera or smartphone (tripod recommended).
Live the experience to the full
- Sit down in time to see the first light, choose your favourite viewpoint and keep a low profile to preserve the magic of the place.
- Pack a thermos and a snack for a cosy moment. For breakfast, it’s up to you what you want, the main thing is not to leave anything behind when you leave!
- Respect the site and remember to tidy and sort to thank Mother Nature’s beauty and perpetuate it!
