Our Roman & medieval villages

Travel back in time with the Roman and medieval villages of Vaison Ventoux Provence. Narrow streets, stone houses and ancient remains are just some of the wonders to discover.

1. Vaison-la-Romaine

Vaison-la-Romaine is a small town with a strong ancient and medieval heritage.

A veritable open-air museum, with its archaeological park featuring the ancient site of Puymin and the ancient site of La Villasse, Vaison-la-Romaine allows visitors to immerse themselves in the past of our ancestors. In the ancient theater, you can sit in their footsteps during concerts and shows.

Vaison-la-Romaine has a rare feature in that it has two cathedrals. The Romanesque cathedral, Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth, offers a peaceful atmosphere with its magnificent cloister. The cathedral church of Sainte-Marie-de-l’Assomption, located in the medieval town, offers sumptuous views of Mont Ventoux and the Ouvèze.

2. Crestet

Dominated by the towering ruins of one of the Comtat’s oldest castles, Crestet spreads out over a head from which it takes its name.

Strolling through the narrow streets of Crestet, you can admire its pretty covered wash-house, fed by the overflow from the fountain above. Further on, the partly troglodyte Saint-Sauveur church opens onto a picturesque square featuring a fountain with an octagonal basin.

On the esplanade of the medieval castle, privately owned, you can admire its facades with Renaissance-style windows lining the lanes. It’s also the ideal place to admire the splendid view of Mont Ventoux.
