The Gallo-Roman bridge, listed as a "Monument Historique" in 1840, is the real link between the modern lower town and the medieval city. The bridge is one of the town's major monuments.
Built in the 1st century A.D., it is anchored in the rock at a narrowing of the Ouvèze river. Its single arch, 17 m wide and 9 m high, is made up of five semicircular arches and rests on the rock.

In ancient times, the bridge dominated the dyke installations on piles. The river encouraged intense commercial traffic, carried out by corporations of navigators.
