The small village in the Haut Vaucluse region will lend its heart to the boldness of its pencils, and for one weekend will become the capital of caricature, a first edition orchestrated by Barrigue, a Franco-Swiss caricaturist and leading figure in press cartoons, who has lived in Buisson for 30 years. The event will take place on both days, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., in the village square and at the Bistrot de Buisson.
Nine French, Belgian and Swiss cartoonists, members of the France-Cartoons association - defenders of press cartoons and freedom of expression - will be on hand to sketch the public on the spot, in a friendly atmosphere. Live portraits, discussions, book signings and an exhibition will enliven these two days open to all.
The sketchers don't just sketch, they also sign their books and exhibit some forty drawings in the Bistrot de Buisson, giving visitors a better understanding of their work and style.
Guests include :
- Placide, president of France-Cartoons, a leading figure in political cartooning;
- Jean-Michel Delambre, pen of Le Canard enchaîné ;
- Sondron, mainstay of Belgium's L'Avenir newspaper; Jean-Michel Renault, a former Pilote contributor and author of "Censure et caricatures";
- Marc Large, a jack-of-all-trades between comics, press and illustration;
- Pierre Ballouhey, whose drawings have traveled from Fluide Glacial to the New Yorker;
- Joted, Swiss cartoonist and committed publisher;
- Bonfim, Franco-Brazilian cartoonist and musician ;
- and of course Barrigue, founder of the weekly Vigousse and a pillar of Swiss satirical cartooning.
And to complete the experience, the La Roche-Audran winery will be offering a special cuvée with labels illustrated by three participating cartoonists. All to be enjoyed in a convivial atmosphere on the terrace of the Bistrot de Buisson.
With its freedom of tone, sharp pencil strokes and shared pleasure, "Quoi, ma gueule?" promises a unique, funny and committed weekend in Buisson. A great way to celebrate the art of the line... without ever firing a shot in the dark.
Opening on Saturday, July 4 at 5pm, in the presence of the artists.
