The equipment you need for a cycling holiday

Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just enjoy the great outdoors, a cycling adventure promises unforgettable moments. Here are a few tips you should know before setting off on your cycling adventure!

Going on vacation by bike is no mean feat!  So what do you pack in your cycling bag?

First of all, the bike. The basic, essential, Holy Grail of cycling. You need a bike that’s worthy of the name, a speedy machine that swallows up the kilometers without batting an eyelid. Mountain bike for adventurers, road bike for leisurely rides, electric bike for the less sporty… The choice is yours! And if you don’t have a bike at home or can’t fit it in your suitcase, don’t panic! Many of our partners rent bikes! And you can even find guides to help you discover the region!

Next, you’ll need something to bundle up in. Because while a light breeze in the hair is pleasant, the mistral, driving rain (although it’s rare here) and scorching sunshine are much less so. So remember to pack a helmet (safety first!), sunglasses, sun cream and a k-way or windbreaker. Don’t forget suitable footwear too.

When it comes to transporting your belongings, the choice is yours. Bike panniers, backpacks for minimalists, or a cart.

When it comes to comfort, there’s plenty to choose from. You can stop off at one of our Accueil Vélo partners, who will welcome you in the best possible way! Or if you’re a seasoned adventurer, you can bring your own mattress and sleeping bag for a bivouac.

What about nutrition? You can’t set off on a bike without food, so remember to take energy bars, dried fruit and, above all, a good, full water bottle. The heat can quickly dehydrate you before you know it. And for your garbage, remember to dispose of it in the garbage cans provided, or take a bag to put it in and dispose of it later.

Finally, don’t forget the essentials: first-aid kit, bike pump, patches, tire levers… You can never be too careful!

With all that, you’re ready for your cycling adventure!

OUR ADVICE

Don’t forget to have a good dose of humor and patience, because the unexpected is bound to happen. But that’s part of the charm of bicycle travel: the unexpected, the surprise, and moments of sharing!
