Vaison-la-Romainea feast of history
Our journey begins in the cobbled streets of Vaison-la-Romaine, where the impressive remains of the Roman era await us. We explore the majestic ruins of the ancient theater and thermal baths, soaking up the atmosphere of this vanished civilization. Whispers of the past ring in our ears as we stroll among the columns and arcades, transporting us to another time.
Then, after strolling along the Grand Rue, we come to the Roman bridge where, as soon as we look up, we’re thrown straight back into the past, facing the medieval city. We explore the narrow streets, where stone houses and centuries-old churches bear witness to the architecture of the period. We discover the imposing ramparts that surround the city, a symbol of its power and resistance to the invasions and conflicts that have marked its history. Once back down from the medieval city, we head for Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth Cathedral, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. The elaborate details of the sculptures and bas-reliefs tell us of the stories and legends that shaped the lives of the inhabitants of Vaison-la-Romaine in the Middle Ages.
