Confraternities were particularly active during the Crusades and the building of cathedrals (12th-14th centuries), and again at the end of the Wars of Religion in the 16th and 17th centuries. Most of them built or rebuilt chapels to carry out their activities and devotions. The brotherhoods that live here and in the surrounding villages today still seek to foster a spirit of solidarity in the service of the common good.
This chapel trail will introduce you to several types of ancestral brotherhoods: the Pénitents Noirs and the Pénitents Blancs. Why these colors? Are they still alive? You'll be surprised...!
