Description
The Hadrien 2000 theater company presents a reading of excerpts from *Tell Them of Battles, Kings, and Elephants*, Mathias Énard’s novel about an imaginary episode in the life of Michelangelo.
On May 13, 1506, Michelangelo, having abandoned work on Pope Julius II’s tomb, arrived in Constantinople at the invitation of Sultan Bajazet. After rejecting Leonardo da Vinci’s proposal, the sultan asked him to design a bridge across the Golden Horn.
Thus began a fascinating and tumultuous encounter between two worlds, two civilizations, and two cultures. A portrait emerges, etched with surgical precision, of a genius artist—violent and creative—confronted by a multitude of desires and ambitions.
