Based on a work by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, an adaptation of “La Panne,” directed by Christiane Cheruel. After his red lacquered Studebaker breaks down, Alfredo Traps finds shelter for the night at the home of a retired judge. In addition to a sumptuous dinner, his host invites him to take part in a mock trial she is staging with three friends—two prosecutors and a defense attorney. Traps agrees to play the role of the defendant. During the lavish, well-lubricated feast, the four ladies prove to him that everyone has something to hide. Little by little, through gradual shifts, he goes from innocent to guilty. That is how this likable sixty-year-old meets his fate that evening. Traps’s story begins as a game.
