Almost thirty years after Barbara's death, actress Marie-Sophie Ferdane gives body and voice to the "long brunette lady". Accompanied on stage by a pianist, she invites the audience to discover another facet of the famous singer.
Barbara didn't sing for pleasure or to entertain. She sang because that's who she was: a woman who sings. In her interviews, she played with mystery, answering questions with new ones and rebuffing indiscreet journalists. Perhaps no one knew who Barbara really was. Without lifting the veil of mystery that surrounds the singer, director Emmanuel Noblet invites the audience to discover a new facet of her words, not through her songs, but with excerpts from interviews and personal correspondence. She talks about love, her relationship with the stage, stage fright and the young people who come to applaud her. Barbara (par Barbara) paints a portrait of a woman of unyielding character and timeless words, but above all of a passionate woman devoted to her music. "In any case, it's sing or die", she might have said.
