The Vaison-la-Romaine Market

The Vaison-la-Romaine market is one of the best known and most beautiful in France! On Tuesday mornings, there are around 350 stalls selling all the flavours and colours of Provence. Mainly local stalls, often handed down from generation to generation, line the town’s main squares and streets. A stroll through the heart of the town, where the scents carry you from one stall to the next, literally taking you on a journey!

It’s an authentic, friendly market where you can find fruit, vegetables, local produce and flowers, as well as pottery, clothing and jewellery. For some, it’s a place to get together, chat, exchange recipes and relax on the terrace…

Farmers' market

A small market of local producers is held every Saturday morning in Vaison-la-Romaine in the Burrus car park, a stone’s throw from the Vaison Ventoux Provence tourist office.

In the villages, you can visit Rasteau on Wednesday mornings ,Sablet on Friday mornings and Mollans-sur-Ouvèze on Saturday mornings to fill your baskets with fresh local produce.

Night markets

It’s a real invitation to enjoy the balmy summer evenings and take the time to stroll around, discovering local produce, all in a warm and sometimes musical atmosphere!

The night markets await you with their colourful stalls and intoxicating scents, where you can enjoy a unique experience, meet passionate craftspeople and sample local specialities.

Did you know?

The roots of the Vaison-la-Romaine market date back to 1483, when Pope Sixtus IV officially authorised a weekly market in the town. This tradition was confirmed in 1532 by Pope Clement VII, who set Tuesday as the definitive market day. For more than five centuries, this not-to-be-missed event has enlivened the town every Tuesday, without exception – come rain or shine, or even when the Tour de France passes through!
