AOC Ventoux

Discover the Ventoux AOC

Between the slopes of Mont Ventoux and the first hills of the Baronnies Provençales, the AOC Ventoux invites itself into Vaison Ventoux Provence, particularly around the villages of Crestet and Entrechaux. A territory for two fine appellations: AOC Ventoux is a neighbour of AOC Côtes du Rhône. It is also unique in that it is the only appellation whose 6,000 hectares of vineyards cover two Regional Nature Parks: Ventoux and Luberon.

An appellation with the breath of the Ventoux

Composition of the terroir

The terroir benefits from both climatic contrasts and geological differences due to the famous Mont Ventoux. The vines flourish on well-exposed terraces, cradled by the sun’s rays and the coolness due to the altitude. The AOC Ventoux soils are mainly derived from sediments deposited by the Tertiary era seas at the base of the Ventoux limestone massif. There are three main types:

  • Red soils: derived from the breakdown of limestone.
  • Sandy and clay soils: rich in mineral oxides, these types of soil give the wines a beautiful, round structure.
  • Detrital soils: composed of rolled pebbles or limestone scree, they favour good drainage and optimal ripening of the grapes.

This topographical diversity favours a wide variety of microclimates, allowing optimal adaptation of the grape varieties and unique expression of the wines.

Pleasant discoveries!

Tasting AOC Ventoux wines reveals all the richness and diversity of this authentic terroir: a subtle balance between power, finesse and freshness, the signature of the Géant de Provence.

  • The reds, a deep ruby red, first seduce with their fruity and spicy aromas, where cherry and blackberry mingle with hints of garrigue and pepper.
  • The rosés shine with their luminous colour and fresh, fruity nose, revealing hints of strawberry and citrus.
  • The whites, with their elegant pale yellow hue, reveal scents of white flowers and fresh fruit, with a mineral touch.

Red and rosé wines are made mainly from varietals such as grenache, syrah, mourvèdre, carignan and cinsault. As for white wines, they are mainly made from grape varieties such as bourboulenc, grenache blanc, clairette, roussanne, marsanne, vermentino and viognier.
