To explore this authentic village, start by parking in the visitors’ car park at the bottom of the village and walk into the medieval village, taking in the charm of its pretty, steep lanes.
As you continue on your way, you’ll pass the pretty covered wash-house, fed by the overflow from the fountain above. Continue on to the partly troglodyte church of Saint-Sauveur, which opens onto a picturesque square featuring a 16th-century fountain with an octagonal basin.
Continue your ascent towards the castle, admiring the facades with their Renaissance-style windows lining the narrow streets. On the esplanade, the privately-owned medieval castle stands majestically, restored by the renowned French architect Roger Anger.
Don’t leave Crestet without taking in the magnificent panorama of the Dentelles de Montmirail and the mythical Mont Ventoux, which will take your breath away, from this highest point of the village.
If you’re feeling sporty, take one of the hiking trails through the mountain and discover the sublime surrounding scenery.
