Vaison-la-Romaine, awarded the “Plus Beaux Détours de France” label, immerses visitors in 2,000 years of history. It is home to the largest archaeological park in France, with the ancient sites of Puymin and La Villasse. The antique theatre, the jewel in the crown of the Puymin site, and the musée Théo Desplans unveil statues and objects from Roman life. The majestic Roman bridge spans the Ouvèze and links the ancient town to the medieval city, with the backdrop of the Mont Ventoux.
Classified as a “Petite Cité de Caractère“, the old town captivates with its cobbled streets, Market Square and fountain. The château comtal dominates the Haute Ville, dotted with art galleries and boutiques.
Vaison-la-Romaine has two cathedral churches: Sainte-Marie-de-l’Assomption, in the heart of the medieval town, with stained glass windows by Kim En Joong, and Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth, with its Romanesque cloister perfect for contemplation.
