Description

The Oper'Azul company invites clarinetist Camille Humeau and accordionist and tenor Pierre-Emmanuel Roubet to present a dialogue between klezmer music and early Mediterranean music.
A moving journey, an inspired dialogue between the ancient repertoires of Western Europe and Jewish traditions. Program: Klezmer music, traditional Sephardic songs, and Occitan troubadour songs, works by Monteverdi, Handel, and Purcell, excerpts from the Cantigas de Santa Maria, the Laudario di Cortona, and the manuscript from Saint-Martial Abbey in Limoges. Originating in the 15th century among Ashkenazi Jews, klezmer music embodies journeys and nostalgia as much as it does joy; in just a few notes, it shifts from contemplation to the most infectious exuberance. It is this dialogue—between the Western Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque, and Jewish traditions—that the Ensemble Rosas brings to life. Cast: Camille Humeau — clarinet Pierre-Emmanuel Roubet — accordion and vocals Pierre-Yves Binard — percussion, Indian harmonium, and vocals Catalina Skinner — vocals and percussion
